Total Solar Eclipse Composite, Sarnac Lake NY, 04/08/24.
I think this is probably the first image I’ve done extensive photoshop processing on. I knew from the start that I wanted to try a composite landscape image. With all of the hype I decided to take a canoe out to a remote little island on Sarnac Lake in an attempt to avoid the crowds, and to make sure I would have a good composition for the event.
In the weeks following the eclipse, I’ve seen dozens of pictures across social media capturing the eclipse, and seen all sorts of crazy representations of the scene. I have had a full range of feelings about many of the composites I’ve seen, as I believe it is quite hard to find a good balance between a tasteful edit, while also trying to emphasize how powerful the moment looked and felt. I hope I struck a good balance here.
